Art Report #3 - Steam Knight Archetype

Hello,

Steam Knight archetype is here:

This mighty warrior focused mostly on the Steam Power Discipline which allows him to:
- Overpower and push enemies around into disadvantageous positions and even pick them up and throw them in the nearby chasm/spiked wall/fire.
- Quickly Charge in the midst of battle, crushing everyone around him or Charge away from the battle when things get nasty (it's not a retreat, it's a tactical regrouping!)
- Parry enemy swings, counterattacking them in the moment of weakness and even reflecting enemy bullets and projectiles back at them!

Also don't forget that players are free to mix and match Abilities from all Disciplines, so for example you can make a Steam Power/Necrochemistry monster who overdoses on mutagens and rips everyone apart in melee.

For those who are interested in the design process:
1) First of all i had these designs after my course with Anthony Jones:

2) Like with Necrochemist before, i decided to repeat the process to test what i've learned, starting with the rough pen silhouettes:

3) And once i've decided with the general design, i experimented with the color schemes, selecting the "rusty" one (A) and rendering out til the end, changing it in the process to the more orange-looking armor rather than brownish rust:

Next on the line is Mechanowizard archetype and her trusty automaton companion.

Character creation

Current Story: As a Player I want to have a possibility to select stats/skills/abilities and therefore create my own class.

I am in awe with games that have mighty character creation!
For example Cataclysm DDA.
If Cataclysm wouldn't has any actual game after character creation, I am sure, there would be people who play it.
Infinite replayability is one of the results of good character creation and character progression (of course).

My plan is to add good character creation and progression to Fallen.
How is your character to be created and develop?
First of all, Fallen doesn't have creature stats like STR/DEX/CON etc.
Every single creature has a selection of secondary combat stats.
These stats, as you can guess from their name are used for combat calculations.

Armour, Dodge, Move speed, Melee Accuracy, Melee Damage, Melee Attack speed, Ranged Accuracy, Ranged Damage, Ranged Attack speed.
As usual, all secondary
stats, as usual, are based on another creature primary stats, perks and skills.

But! If our character has no primary stats how it would be created and progress?

Perks and features!
You will build your character from features like Lego blocks.

Game will give limited amount of character points to create an avatar.
You will buy different features for your character from a big pool.
Every single feature isn't a skill, perk or stats, but potentially all of them.
For example feature 'robust health' will grant your character additional HP, both as static bonus and per level. Rather classic perk, isn't it?
Another feature 'Internal steam engine' means that your character endured painful surgery and now has mana powered steam engine inside body. It will allow to use steam based abilities and add manometer to game interface.
You can get 'Steam discipline' feature. It will give your character a steam based ability. I think that player should be allowed to 'purchase' steam abilities even without 'Internal steam engine' ^_^. Nobody prohibits you to learn skills you cant use. In theory. For future purpose, but we will see.

Of course, you can purchase negative features to get more Character Points to buy positive features and so on.

Once you are done, these features would be applied to a character.

I set a deadline for myself to finish mentioned above: this Saturday.

Who is mister Steam Knigth?

No. No. No. This creature is mana larvae. Huge insect, tainted by wild mana. They don't pose any real threat, until outnumber you or evolve to more powerful beasts.

But Who is Mr. Steam Knight?

Mighty figure in bulky shinning armour. Impenetrable fortress armored head to toe?
The reality says otherwise.
'Human mounted steam engine interface' or HUMSEN is result of series of painful surgical operations.
The reward is the possibilities for one, who was lucky enough to be selected for this honor, when he or she reaches the 'workforce' age.

Steam knights are in high demand at every factory or mushroom farm all over the workers quarters.
Every plant or factory needs person who can haul few metric tons or work as steamroller or steamhummer, literally.
They have the lowest attrition rate among all workers. Steam knight are too valuable to be lost.
That's why they are named as 'Knights' a nobility among workforce.
The few who can change their workplace without paying a "ransom" tax and of course, they are welcome all over the Frontier.
Who can fight the hordes of necromutants better then Steam Knights?

Take a role of Steam Knight and who knows, maybe "Mighty figure in bulky shinning armour. Impenetrable fortress armored head to toe" is the future of your character.
